Hallo I’m Veronica! Mom to Claudia, her brother Jack & 2 Yorkies, wife, scrapbooker, party hostess, coloured cocktail lover, type-A bullet list maker, Leo, and German speaking first generation Canadian!
My love of design and passion for construction was sparked in my early 20’s while working for my dad’s concrete company and getting my masters in art history. I have always had an obsession with home decor that was solidified when decorating my first condo, then building our first family home with my husband, to renovating our second (and current) family home in 2016, and all of our flipping projects since! I love everything about being the general contractor for our business and working with our amazing trades who help us bring our vision to life! There is nothing more exciting to me than demo day… stripping our property down to the bones for a fresh slate and starting the rebuilding process – installing tiles, flooring, paint, appliances, and then making it feel like home with staging! I have obviously furnished and decorated my own homes, but here at Hallo Haus Studio we stage all of our flips too. Not only do I love an excuse to shop, but I believe staging our properties is one of the main reasons we’ve sold each of them in less than 24 hours after going to market!
I am a big believer in function over form, and that is in the forefront of all of my design choices… in my own home, helping Claudia with her first home, in every flip and refresh… if it is beautiful but not functional I don’t see the point!! I also get to do all of these things with the projects at my husband’s construction company where I am their “in-haus” designer!
My personal decor style is on the minimalistic side with a neutral base and pops of colour, but in another life I live in a California coastal style home… in my dream life I have a sleek, cool New York city apartment with modern Parisian touches, and I did almost cave when Claudia asked for a pink kitchen in her house – but as good for her soul and our social media as that would have been, it would have been no good for resale lol!! So it’s safe to say there really isn’t a design style out there that I don’t love on some level, for some reason.
I believe there is nothing too small to celebrate, and I love to host anyone for any reason… I threw my son and daughter in-law’s engagement party, I’ve thrown many bridal and baby showers for family and friends, and somehow in her 30’s I’m still throwing Claudia birthday parties!
Lastly, I had my own blog back in 2010 writing about scrapbooking, recipes, travel, and hosting tips… blog pics curtesy of Instagram, back when it was just an app used to filter (literally, put a filter on LOL) and share photos with family and friends. I took a break from blogging a few years ago when all the reno projects started, so I am very excited to have this outlet to share my passions back in my life here at hallohausstudio.com!! And I am excited to be doing it all now with Claudia… as a Gen X I am thrilled my millennial daughter runs our social media accounts and has taught me a new skill – how to publish our blog posts here on our new (more complicated to me LOL!) website!!
